Hype

On this page, you’ll find links to cool people doing cool stuff. No, none of them are paying me to be put here (lol). This is just my space to yell about awesomesauce people – writers, trainers, artists, suppliers of mushroom spore, etc. Some are people I know and some I’m just a massive fan of. Get amongst it.

Writer, worldbuilder, streamer and game designer Emma Lindhagen.

One of my favourite people in the world, Emma Lindhagen, is a writer, worldbuilder, streamer, fledgling game designer and language nerd with a big teacup (I can vouch for the size of that thing). I am a superfan of the Orryn novellas.

Emma’s latest work is an incredibly handy worldbuilding tool called Prep Work. There is a whole series of them to come! You can also support Emma’s tea habit on ko-fi or follow Emma on instagram.

The best trainer & gym in Wellywood: Guillaume Martel at ONI.

If you’re in Wellywood and in need of a personal trainer to help get thine butt off couch, then you gotta check out ONI and my buddy Guillaume Martel who is a trainer there. Everyone is lovely, the space is great (not just a long line of treadmills stretching to infinity), it’s private so it’s not crowded, they do free no pressure consults (no, really), and if you decide to give it a go, they’ll match you up with the right person.

Seriously, most gyms are not my jam. Too many treadmills, crowds, cameras, and pushy people. Hard Pass. ONI is the opposite. I feel totally comfortable there. Plus they have a coffee machine and tolerate my endless nerd jokes – YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

TL;DR: The vibes, they are good at ONI.

Here Be Dragons and other amazing art by Andy Frazer.

Andy is a paleoartist and illustrator best known for his “Dragons of Wales” series, but also draws incredible dinosaurs and other creatures. Example: he turned my prompt for the “Dragons of the Dark Woods” kickstarter into this magnificent beastie!

If you want a funky lil dragon of your own, keep an eye out for the next crowdfund. In the meantime, you can get your hands on some gorgeousness from Andy’s shop, support Andy on Patreon, or follow Andy on instagram.

I got the mini mushroom farm from the fine folks at ZooDoo.

The Hermit’s garden loves ZooDoo. You know what makes anything grow, even in the Wellington wind? Capybara poo! Who knew?

ZooDoo makes compost and potting mix from the specially treated poop (no, it doesn’t stink) of all sorts of critters, as well as other good stuff for your garden. They deliver ze poo in Welly and a couple of other places and also sell a bunch of other goodies nationwide.

If you need a top tier secret santa present, or you’re just into cute shit (ahem), you can’t go past the endangered faeces (lmao) range. No shit (sorry), ZooDoo sell adorable mini elephants, rhinos and hippos made out of their own doo. Plants love them. So do I. All profits go towards working to prevent suicide too.

And, of course, there’s the mini mushroom farms (did the fungi write this?).

If you’re into horror, you need author Alan Baxter in your life.

Alan writes horror and weird fiction that will scare the crap out of you, make you laugh out loud (looking at you, The Roo!), and maybe think twice about buying a mini mushroom farm. I strongly suggest you scroll the list of Alan’s books and grab whatever takes your fancy.

You can also support Alan on Patreon, toss a coin in Alan’s tip jar on ko-fi, or follow Alan on social media (bonus: he has very cute dogs).
